Let’s go back to the beginning. Gregg is the creative force behind Modern Bird Studios out of Northern Virginia and he makes one-of-a-kind custom paintings of photos in dramatic two-tone on wood. Now that you’re back, I’ll finish. I first heard about Modern Bird from Mandy at Harper’s Happenings where I entered to win a giveaway of one of his pieces, even though I never win anything that cool. After entering the giveaway, I went to his website and started figuring out how to start saving up for a Modern Bird piece as a Father’s Day gift to my husband. Because what father wouldn’t love a one of a kind, totally original, panting made in the colors of your choice from a photo of your choice?
Fast forward to one night on Twitter when a bunch of bloggers were one-upping each other on the subject of what they’d do to host a Modern Bird giveaway like the one at Harper’s Happenings. Never one to shy away from a competition I said “I will wear two of your paintings like a sandwich board and strut through the streets of DC telling everyone I see your URL!”
OK, not really. Instead, I got into a conversation with Gregg’s wife Megan (a woman who defines “awesomesauce”) about how the two of us could work together to help Modern Bird take DC – and the world! – by storm. And this giveaway was born.
I have been walking around like a tween with Justin Bieber tickets in my pocket over this. I can’t think of any better use for my blog space than to help creative people in my community make a name for themselves. The arts are my passion and I LOVE finding new artists and sharing my discoveries with everyone who will sit still long enough to listen. And Modern Bird is great to work with. They were communicating with me every step of the way, helping me settle on colors, telling me the progress of my piece, and even checking the UPS tracking so I’d know when it was going to be delivered. That is customer service with a side of wow! If I weren’t promoting Modern Bird Studios on my blog, I would be dragging strangers into my house to look at their piece on my wall and forcing everyone I meet to look at photos of it on my phone.
“Yes, yes you’re happy about this, we get it. Now tell me how I can get a Modern Bird piece of my own because Father’s Day won’t wait!” you’re all yelling in chorus at me right now.

Colors….colors…I hate picking colors for something so permanent! I second guess myself so many times, so it is a good thing that I won’t be held to them if I win.
Right at this moment I would choose Hunter green and urban beige.
I’d pick garden green and natural wood. I love anything in green and I think the natural color would complement it well.
I think I would go with the Cappuccino and Urban Beige for my two colors. I would love to win one!
